Erin Ferranti is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and an Adjunct Professor of Nutrition at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, the American Heart Association and the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association.

Dr. Ferranti’s clinical expertise is as a public health nurse and diabetes prevention and management educator. She is the lead content expert for Emory School of Nursing’s public health nursing curriculum and serves as the Faculty Director of the Emergency Preparedness Student Nurses Association. Before her academic appointment, Dr. Ferranti served as the Assistant Chief Nurse at the Georgia Department of Public health where she was involved in statewide emergency preparedness planning following the terrorist disaster of September 11, 2001.

Dr. Ferranti’s research interest is focused on identifying early biomarkers and identifying strategies to mitigate cardiometabolic risk burden in women of childbearing age who have had cardiometabolic complications during pregnancy. She is a former National Institutes of Health Emory BIRCWH scholar and is currently funded with a K01 from the NIH to examine the mechanistic determinants of within-race variability for the persistence of cardiometabolic dysregulation in the postpartum timeframe in women who had gestational diabetes and/or hypertensive disorders during pregnancy. Findings from her research have been published in multiple journals and she has been an invited speaker, poster presenter and served on conference panels at the national level. Dr. Ferranti is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and leads both diabetes prevention groups and academic courses in diabetes care. Dr. Ferranti’s combined practice, education, and research expertise has led to numerous appointments on regional and national committees and boards.

She completed her PhD in 2013, her MPH and MSN in 2001 and her BSN in 1998, all from Emory University.
